Mekong Delta

January 30, 2010

I had a lovely time away from the bustle of the big city in the Mekong Delta today, visiting the local fishing village, riding in a long boat, and paddling through the palm-tree lined channels. The villages are calm and laid back, set amongst coconut groves and narrow waterways. There are floating houses with large cages for raising catfish beneath, simple wooden huts with thatched roofs, and colorful roosters chasing hens (we suspect they were used for cock fights). It was very relaxing and peaceful, and the fresh fruit at the end wasn’t bad either ^^

I’m meeting some friends to hunt for roasted duck for dinner. My bus for Nha Trang leaves in 2 hours. I heard the weather is great there. Fingers crossed for some snorkeling!
